Experts from the public and private sectors from Russia, China and Kyrgyz Republic gathered within the framework of the Gaidar Readings on September 25 to discuss the interaction of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and the Chinese initiative “One belt - One road”. The conference was organized by the National Institute for Strategic Studies of the Kyrgyz Republic (NISI KR), the Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Institute of Economic Policy named after E.T. Gaydar.

Timeliness of this event is conditioned by the need to coordinate actions to expand integration between the EEU and the Chinese initiative "One belt - one road", as well as the need to search for promising areas for cooperation. Deputy Minister of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic Sazbakov Almaz in his welcoming speech mentioned the agreement on trade and economic cooperation between the EEU and PRC, and noted that it will cover issues of customs and industry cooperation, electronic commerce, technical regulation, SPS measures, etc. Deputy Director of the NISI KR Baydolety Nuradil, in his turn, noted that the PRC is one of the largest economic partners of the KR and that with the accession of the KR to the EEU, the investment attractiveness of the Kyrgyz Republic for China has increased. He also said in his report that in general, a synergetic effect is expected from the “One belt-One road” initiative and the deepening of integration within the EEU.

About the Eurasian integration, Balandina Galina, senior research associate of the Russian Academy of Science and Technology, in her report "Unified Customs Regulation in the Unified Energy System", spoke about the specifics of the customs legislation of the EEU, and also proposed a unification of customs documents, mutual recognition of financial guarantees, creation of a "single" submission of information for all types of state control in one place, as well as automation of information transfer procedures.

From the Chinese side, Dean of the Institute of Emerging Markets at Beijing Pedagogical University Hu Biliang noted that one of the main areas of cooperation should be the development of infrastructure.
